Despite recent socio-economic progress in Mozambique, 48 percent of all children live in absolute poverty, making these children particularly vulnerable.
In addition, some of them lose their first line of protection – their parents. Children can lose parental protection and care for many reasons. Consequences include poverty, emergencies, domestic violence, family breakdown and harmful traditional practices.
Children with disabilities and girls are particularly at risk due to deeply rooted cultural attitudes about gender roles.
